Long-established American links with the Waitangi Treaty Grounds were celebrated in July when guests from the American Consulate paid a visit to the Waitangi National Trust estate.

The visitors inspected an exhibit at the Treaty House exploring the historical, bilateral relationship.  It illustrated the volume of maritime trade and traffic in Treaty times, and offered a fascinating, personal insight into the lives of those who arrived, endured and thrived through the tumult of our early trading nation.

Waitangi CEO Jeanette Richardson hosted the American party throughout their visit. The day began with a powhiri and visit to the exhibition, and concluded with a guided tour of the estate.

In the evening Mr Greanias and his party were guests of honour at a special performance of the Treaty Grounds’ original historical drama, Land of Plenty.  This brings to life in song and action some of the colourful personalities from the time of the Treaty. The show will be staged nightly once summer hours commence on 1 October.
