Winter weekend entertainment

New Saturday entertainment has been introduced for visitors who come to Waitangi through the contemplative winter season. The family troop Nga Manu o Waitangi (Gene, Samantha and James) give a guide in music and action songs to the Maori traditions of welcome and waiata.

Half-hour performances are presently scheduled at 11:30am, 1:30pm and 2:30pm and are available at a small charge for all visitors to the Treaty Grounds. Times may be subject to change, so check with reception (09 402 7437 ext 200).


Extraordinary ceremony for Willie Apiata VC

Several thousand people gathered at the Treaty Grounds on 3rd May this year to witness one of the most impressive welcome ceremonies (powhiri) of recent times.  The occasion was the welcome back to his Ngapuhi roots of Corporal Willie Apiata, the celebrated recent recipient of the Victoria Cross.

Support expressed for new Visitor Centre
