Waitangi Day Schedule of Events 2011

The Waitangi National Trust has released a confirmed timetable of events and arrangements which take account of potential further growth in numbers this Waitangi Day on Sunday, 6 February.

 

The traditional dawn karakia has been moved outdoors to the lawns in front of the whare runanga, the carved meeting house, and will be held at 5am. We ask that the contemplative and peaceful mood is respected by all in this new setting.

10.00-15.30 Entertainment on the upper Treaty Grounds, including kapa haka and pipe bands
10.00 Interdenominational church service at the Waitangi Stage (Hobsons Beach)
11-16.00 Continuous entertainment at the Waitangi Stage (Hobsons Beach)
from 13.00 Horse Trekking (1/2 hr rides to Wairoa Bay - depart hourly) at the Horse Trek'n base in Paihia (Wairoa Rd, past the Waitangi Golf Club)
13.00 21-Gun Salute fired from HMNZS Te Kaha
16.00 Beat Retreat and Naval Sunset Ceremony on the Treaty House Lawn - Royal NZ Navy

NOTE: Free parking is also provided on the estate for the free concerts on Saturday 5 February starting at 5:45pm featuring Dame Malvina Major and Ray Woolf.

 

Traffic management

All road traffic onto the grounds will cease at 10am, as the bridge becomes entirely dedicated to pedestrian access.

Alternative parking is provided at the secure carpark at the corner of Puketona and Haruru Falls Roads, near Watea. From there, an increased and continuous shuttle service will run to the Treaty Grounds via Haruru Falls Road.
