Waitangi Day Traffic Management
All road traffic onto the grounds will cease at 10am, as the bridge becomes entirely dedicated to pedestrian access, though this may be brought forward if the Treaty Grounds car parks fill earlier. It is recommended that drivers plan their arrival as early as possible, especially if they have passengers with access or mobility issues and wish to secure a park as close as possible to the main celebrations.
Officers and Treaty Grounds security staff will be on hand to assist people and direct vehicles from first light. Motorists should take special care during the dawn service because of the swelling numbers walking there at a time when visibility can be low.
Cars will be diverted at the Waitangi roundabout and onwards to the secure carpark at the corner of Puketona and Haruru Falls Roads, near Watea (refer to map). From there, an increased and continuous shuttle service will run to the Treaty Grounds via Haruru Falls Road from 8:00am. A gold coin donation is requested. The last shuttle will leave the Treaty Grounds at 6:30pm following the ceremony of Beat Retreat by the Royal New Zealand Navy.
Ferries
The Fullers scheduled ferry will loop via Waitangi wharf on its regular services between Paihia and Russell, at the standard fare. This will especially help those staying at the two holiday township.
